I began teaching while in High School and have enjoyed working with aspiring violinists ever since. Many of my students have continued a love for music into adulthood whether teaching, performing, or passing along their passion for music to their own children. Music can bring great joy, peace and fulfillment to one’s self and the audience.
Students in my studio generally range in age from 10 to 18, and I enjoy working with adult students as well. We have group classes and recitals nearly every other month as a way to learn from each other and share our accomplishments. I am often able to accept two or three new students per year through evaluation at a preliminary lesson. The preliminary lesson serves three main purposes: 1) to evaluate the dedication and desire of the student to learn to play the violin well, 2) to see if we would be a good fit for working together on a weekly basis, 3) for the student to leave feeling energized with new goals and possibilities for their violin playing.
Students have the opportunity to progress through the etudes of Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Rode, Dont, Gaviniès and the Caprices of Paganini. I emphasize the solo works of Telemann and J.S. Bach. The concerti of Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Kabalevsky, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Lalo, Saint-Saens, Sibelius, and Tchikovsky are studied. Students have the opportunity to progress to the highest level they choose. Whether she/he continues the violin into college and beyond or as supplement to other career paths, the skills learned through studying the violin will last a lifetime.
